چکیده

• Effects of particle shape and sample density on representative element volume (REV) for granular materials were investigated. The minimum REV reduces with increasing packing density. is sensitive to the characteristics measured. Analysis fluctuations around critical state stress ratio can be used determine REV. number contacts in samples indicates effect aspect Numerical studies particles or system size required attain a discrete method (DEM) simulations have almost always considered spherical circular particles. This study considers how many are needed 2D 2-disc cluster where (AR) was systematically varied. Dense loose assemblies simulated. assessed both by considering repeatability static shearing behaviour biaxial compression tests, investigating measured observed behaviour. data generally improved size. dense more repeatable suggesting that characteristic Although overall responses during shear deformation similar irrespective sizes, smaller size, higher responses. coefficient variation provide insight as whether attained. AR influences thus REV; this explained influence within samples.

Effect of Carbon Nanotube Geometries on Mechanical Properties of Nanocomposite Via Nanoscale Representative Volume Element

Predicting the effective elastic properties of carbon nanotube-reinforced nanocomposites is of great interest to many structural designers and engineers for improving material and configuration design in recent years. In this paper, a finite element model of a CNT composite has been developed using the Representative volume element (RVE) to evaluate the effective material properties of nanocomp...

Wavelet analysis of DEM simulations of samples under biaxial compression

The results of a wavelet analysis of data from discrete element modelling (DEM) simulations of samples under biaxial compression are presented. We show how a wavelet technique may be used to find the strain scales on which critical events occur and to identify regions both in space and in strain when particles in the sample undergo significant activity. The wavelet analysis indicates that most ...

a new type-ii fuzzy logic based controller for non-linear dynamical systems with application to 3-psp parallel robot

abstract type-ii fuzzy logic has shown its superiority over traditional fuzzy logic when dealing with uncertainty. type-ii fuzzy logic controllers are however newer and more promising approaches that have been recently applied to various fields due to their significant contribution especially when the noise (as an important instance of uncertainty) emerges. during the design of type- i fuz...

A Level-Set Based Representative Volume Element Generator and XFEM Simulations for Textile and 3D-Reinforced Composites

This contribution presents a new framework for the computational homogenization of the mechanical properties of textile reinforced composites. A critical point in such computational procedures is the definition and discretization of realistic representative volume elements (RVEs). A geometrically-based weave generator has been developed to produce realistic geometrical configurations of the rei...
